What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement or mammoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to enhance the size, shape, and symmetry of the breasts. The procedure involves the placement of breast implants (silicone or saline) or fat transfer to improve the appearance of the breasts, whether for cosmetic enhancement, post-mastectomy reconstruction, or correcting asymmetry.
Recovery After Breast Augmentation:
● Initial Recovery: Expect some swelling, bruising, and discomfort immediately following surgery. Pain can be controlled with prescribed medications.
● Compression Garment: You will need to wear a surgical bra or compression garment for several weeks to support the breasts and minimize swelling.
● Return to Activity: Most patients can return to light activities within 1-2 weeks, but strenuous physical activities (including exercise and lifting) should be avoided for at least 4-6 weeks to ensure proper healing.
● Follow-Up Appointments: Regular follow-up visits with your surgeon will be necessary to monitor your healing progress and ensure that implants are properly positioned.
● Final Results: Swelling will subside within a few weeks, but the final results typically take 3-6 months to fully appear as the breast tissue settles around the implants.
