What is Breast Reduction?
Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to reduce the size and weight of the breasts. The goal of the surgery is to achieve a breast size that is proportionate to the body and to alleviate the physical discomfort associated with overly large breasts, such as back, neck, and shoulder pain. Breast reduction can also improve the overall appearance of the breasts and make them firmer and more youthful.
Recovery After Breast Reduction:
● Post-Surgical Care: After the surgery, patients will likely experience some swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the breasts. Pain can be managed with prescribed medications.
● Support Garment: A surgical bra or compression garment will be worn to provide support and minimize swelling. This garment also helps the breasts heal in their new, more youthful shape.
● Activity Restrictions: Light activities can typically be resumed after 1-2 weeks, but more strenuous exercise and lifting should be avoided for 4-6 weeks to prevent strain on the healing breasts.
● Follow-Up Appointments: Regular follow-up visits with your surgeon are necessary to monitor the healing process and ensure that the breasts are healing symmetrically and as expected.
● Final Results: Swelling and bruising will gradually subside within the first few weeks, with final results visible in 3-6 months. Scarring will fade over time and should become less noticeable after healing.
